In December 1994, the bank, caisse d'épargne de Midi-Pyrénées opened espace écureuil, on the place du Capitole in Toulouse. Throughout the last decade, espace écureuil has represented numerous remarkable exhibits. Caisse d'épargne has become a patron of contemporary art. The foundation espace écureuil and caisse d'épargne plan to unveil to the public today's most intriguing paintings, sculptures, and photography.
The foundation has six expositions a year, each with a different aim: renowned artists (francois Dilasser in 2004, valerio Adami in 2005...) exhibitions with an international view (the artists, Peregrins, summer 2005) and work by young artists of the region (Point de fuite, 2004 ; Les territoires, 2006). The foundation strives to develop a partnership with local and regional institutions ( an exposition and a seminar with the University of Mirail, an exposition and the publication with the society of development of the Toulouse metro, an exposition and the direction of a film with the association, EDV (L'école superieure d'audiovisuelle). The foundation co produced with regional exhibitions . (L'invitation au voyage seen at the foundation, at the Orangerie, at the Luxembourg Gardens, and the city hall of Bobigny) allowing for municipal publication. In addition, the Foundation is affiliated with Printemps de septembre, an significant contemporary art event in Toulouse.
The foundation has a role in art education and has been involved for many years with the board of education of the Toulouse Academy and the caisse d'épargne Midi-Pyrenees. By taking a part in art education, the espace écureuil along with regional establishments, is able to create outstanding exhibits.
